The Luna Azul Journal is an academic and arbitrated periodical in charge of publishing articles that approach environmental or ecological topics, results of scientific research or technological development, original reflections, revisions or bibliographical reviews. The productions, reflections, analysis and revisions can come from any discipline or area of knowledge. The Luna Azul Journal was created to disclose the productions of the Committee of Environmental Education of the Universidad de Caldas, which ceased to exist with the implementation of the current organic structure of said university. The doctoral studies of two of the members of the Committee led to the creation of the Environment and Development Research Group in 1999, which was classified as D by COLCIENCIAS in 2000. The research group was then responsible for the publication of the journal, continuing this labor up to the present. By University policies, since 2002 the journal has became online and it has a new ISSN: 1909-2474. Starting from number 21, Luna Azul became the official journal of the Research Group “Center of Rural Studies” of the Universidad de Caldas, since the members of the “Environment and Development” Research Group were now part of the new group. Today the Center of Rural Studies is classified by COLCIENCIAS in the A category. The first number of the Luna Azul Journal was directed by Daniel Ricardo Toro Castaño and, from there on, by Luz Elena Sepúlveda Gallego, both professors of the Universidad de Caldas.
